the in-between. an intersection of architecture, sound, sculpture, painting and drawing. in this environment, parts activate to envelop the whole. tensions ignite between spaces as surfaces reshape anew. from yellow to blue to pink, walls move with colour, tone marks air and objects hover between industrial foundation and individual practice.
in this process, meditation becomes secular spirituality. vibration from repurposed material converts to potential energy. with the infinitesimal emphasized, nuance activates the space between foreground and background.
purpose is the sequence of movements that is propelled by the origin of source material. the solemnity of place develops from this process. each passing moment provides autonomy from the spectacle of convention.

coined by amanda kates, the term identikit is related to the fbi’s identification of suspects based on distinguishing features. the show is modeled after this premise: taking five artists with individual identities and curating a show to create a new organism with these five components, or identikits. the building serves as a chamber of functioning organelles receiving and feeding into one another. it combines the structural encoding of john ros’ minimalist installations, the dream-like nightmares of zach seeger, the meditations on light and fabric of alisha sickler, the clinically voyeuristic constructions of yoo jung lee, and the ridiculously absurd temple of amanda kates.
this exhibit coincides with spool mfg.’s ambitious path of nonconformity to the traditional art space invoking curiosity, discussion and change.
